Therapist in Hyde Park, Chicago

Office update: my Hyde Park office closes on October 31, 2026. From November 1, I see clients in person in downtown Chicago, at 401 N. Michigan Ave., Suite 1225 (Streeterville) and 125 S. Wacker Dr. (the Loop), and online throughout Illinois.

Hyde Park Is Known for Deep Roots, Quiet Minds, and People Who Understand Everything Except How to Put It Down.

Hyde Park is known for the lake, the university, the bookstores, and a particular kind of person who has read extensively about their own inner life and still cannot seem to get out of its way.

It is a neighborhood of long roots and complicated histories. Families who have been here for generations. Immigrants who built something real and passed it on. Graduate students who moved here for five years and stayed for thirty.

On the outside, the life looks considered. Intentional, even.

On the inside, there may be grief that has not moved, a family relationship that quietly broke years ago, a sense of belonging nowhere quite fully, or the specific exhaustion of carrying more than one culture in one body.

Does Any of This Feel Familiar?

People from Hyde Park come to my office for different reasons. But there are patterns in what they carry.

Hyde Park is a community that values reflection. The people I see here are thoughtful, often highly educated, and sometimes the most resistant to admitting they need support precisely because they know too much about how support is supposed to work. Therapy in this office is practical, warm, and goes as deep as you are willing to go.

What People in Hyde Park Are Working Through

Hyde Park draws a specific kind of person and a specific kind of problem. People here are often dealing with more than one layer at once:

Woman talking with a therapist during a counseling session

This neighborhood does not have a simple story and neither do most of the people who live in it. That complexity is not a problem to solve. It is the material we work with.

In-Person Therapy for Hyde Park Clients

Working With Sabita Nandy, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

I see Hyde Park clients in person at my Michigan Avenue office, 401 N Michigan Ave, Suite 1225, a direct Metra Electric ride downtown. The office is easily accessible from:

  • Kenwood and Woodlawn
  • South Shore and South Chicago
  • Bronzeville and Oakland
  • Bridgeport and Pilsen
  • Beverly and Morgan Park
  • University of Chicago campus and medical center
  • South Loop (20 minutes via Metra Electric)

Hyde Park is where people come to think. This office is where they come to do something with what they have been thinking about for too long.

I see clients Friday 10 AM to 8 PM and Saturday 10 AM to 5 PM. Monday through Thursday appointments are also available at this location.

What to Expect in Therapy

Therapy in this office is not passive. I will listen, and I will also respond. I will notice things and name them. If you have been in therapy before and felt like you talked a lot without anything changing, this will be different.

In your sessions, you will:

→  Understand the pattern beneath the presenting problem, not just the symptom.

→  Work with the generational material that is shaping your current situation.

→  Get direct feedback, not just reflection. Warmly, but honestly.

→  Address grief that has been sitting unprocessed for years or decades.

→  Navigate complicated family relationships with a clear framework.

→  Build language for experiences that have resisted language until now.

The work I do is grounded in relational neuroscience and narrative therapy. I developed Relational Narrative Imaging™, a clinical method that helps clients see the generational stories shaping their lives and make deliberate choices about which parts to carry forward. If you want to understand more about how this works, the grief counseling page and the family therapy page go into this in more detail.

Why Work With a Private Practice Therapist?

In larger group practices or community mental health settings, clinician assignment is often based on availability, not fit. As a solo practitioner, I offer:

→  Consistency from first session to last. You work with me, not a team.

→  Cultural fluency that does not need to be explained or justified.

→  Saturday appointments, which almost no other solo practitioners in this area offer.

→  A direct, relational approach that goes deeper than symptom management.

The Michigan Avenue office is the only location where I offer Saturday sessions. If weekday appointments are not possible, this matters.

Yes. Grief is one of the most common presenting concerns in this practice, and I work with it across its many forms: loss of a person, loss of a relationship, loss of a cultural home, loss of a life you thought you would have. There is no correct timeline for grief and I do not impose one.

Yes, and this is among the most specific work I do. I was born in India and am fluent in Bengali and Hindi. I do not need cultural context explained. I understand the family dynamics, the pressure to succeed, the grief of immigration, and the complexity of living between two worlds from the inside.
